Hugo Hotel issue in front of the Planning Commission

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Most of you know about the Hugo Hotel on the corner of 6th and Howard. This is the also known as the “defenestration” building with the cool art, and furniture sticking off the side of the building. What’s not so cool is that the building was condemned over 20 years ago, is uninhabitable, and the owners have refused to do anything about it in all that time.
The Housing Division of the SF Redevelopment Agency is recommending that the Commission authorize a resolution of necessity to acquire the Hugo for fair market value through eminent domain. They have asked for us to attend and speak on behalf of the Agency’s staff recommendation to the Commission, and provided some additional background and facts about this long saga.
To speak at the meeting, the process is to fill out a speaker card with your name. The meeting is at City Hall, Room 416 on Tuesday, January 15 at 4:00. The address is 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place.
